First Kobe. Now Liverpool. It’s been a good week for sports fans in Singapore. And it’s only going to get even better this weekend.
Close to 9,000 raucous fans packed the Indoor Stadium for NBA superstar Kobe Bryant on Tuesday. It’ll be 6 times that many as Liverpool take on the Singapore Lions at the National Stadium on Sunday at 7 pm.
Don’t believe reports the reception for the Reds has been somewhat muted compared with their last visit here in 2001. There was no Steven Gerrard then or now, and he is greatly missed. But as die-hards will proudly proclaim, there’s still Torres, Alonso, Carragher, Reina and Kuyt.

If you’d all take a step back and see the bigger picture like i did years ago, u’ll know what i mean.
You see, i was a die-hard Liverpool fan and would not hesitate to taunt or berate Man U fans. However, after years of watching the obsene amount of money the players and the clubs make at the expense of the poor fans, i came to my senses.
Therefore, i am now a neutral soccer fan content to appreciate the beautiful game (i abhor the ugly side of it). Man U or Liverpool or even Barca – i applaud the better team and also the players who deserve it.
As a die-hard Liverpool fan, i used to get all numb and frustrated seeing them lose to Man U – i felt the strain on my heart.
Enjoy the game cause at the end of the day, don’t end up fighting or getting a heart attack over it. The players will get obsenely richer and us fans, miserably poorer.
If your aim is to join them and earn 100,000 pounds a week, i say go for it. Else, make them sweat for your share of the 100,000 pounds a week. We fans deserve a treat to better soccer and not hooliganism.
I’m a die-hard Singapore National Team fan, but I think Liverpool FC will thrash SG bad this Sunday. Thailand improved too much under Peter Reid to earn a tie, without LFC’s Fernando Torres until the end. I say SG is now much inferior to Thailand and may have to face a tremendous defeat this weekend. Afterall, LFC drew with Thailand and they need a good win this Sunday to put their name on top again.
However, best luck to both teams.
Let the Singapore football team be a ‘warm-up’ to the new season ahead.

I am a Liverpool fan since the 80s…. I appreciate other teams and players like Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea and not forgetting some other outstanding players from other teams that were not mentionned.
Much as I don’t want to say this, I must admit that there are a bunch of ManU fans who are simply arrogant and who jump on every single opportunity to redicule other teams, players, or even the fans… Sad, but this is all part and parcel of football. Come to think of it, I don’t give a damn about them anymore. I suppose they do all that to have the ‘I don’t want to lose to anyone thing’ mindset.

We the leverpool fan, most of us are from the late 30’s to 50’s. 20 to 30 year ago leverpool is the most loved club in the planet. we the old fan do not have live game every week, we devoted our sunday morning watching football. those r the years where every players love there club, give everything they can, and that is the thing that make us fans love them. we can feel their passion. Not like now, where any club can buy any player if the can pay. dare to say that we leverpool fans really show our loyalty which no other fans can compare. we love them for more than 20 to 30 years. trophy or no trophy.
Whatever it is. I’m pretty fine with Liverpool getting 2nd placed but they thrashed Man Utd & did a double against them last season. Let’s see what can Man Utd offer w/o tevez & ronaldo or shld i say what can they do with valencia & owen.

Was the Singapore team paid to loose??? Lousy attitude by our players. Our defence showed no agression or commitment to this game.
Our players showed tiredness, lack of fitness, lack of will & really bo chap abt winning the game.
Such a disappointment fm the Singapore team. We played like we were meant to loose.

the match took place in S’pore, be it what ever fan you are, we are singaporeans. If S’pore team loses, we lose as well.It is not a matter of which team you support, be it man u ,liverpool chelsea or what soever, they are all foreigners, if we scream for them they don’t hear anything, but our screams for our home team means everything for them. Being happy to see foreigners trashing singpore’s so called “ass” you have mentioned is not only an insult to the s’pore team who represented our country, but to us as well.
