Going through more than 300 comments in our story about former President Corazon Aquino’s condition was quite heartwarming. From different places in the country and around the world, Filipinos posted their prayers and support for the former leader.

“There’s no other [person] like Cory Aquino who put her life [at stake] for the Filipino people who fought the democracy…You [will] always [be] part of our life as we are enjoying the fruit[s] of democracy,” said Rommel Rodriguez.

A user named Anna who lives in Al Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia posted this comment:

All things work together for good to those who love God! We thank God for using you as one of the good leaders of the Philippines. Here in Al Khobar, KSA, you are in our prayers. Let the joy of the Lord be the strength of each and every member of your family.God bless you and your family!

A lot of the comments were also in Filipino.

One user named Jovie posted this:

Dean04 of Quezon City praised Cory for being a good example to Filipino women.

I hope that you’ll get well soon. You have been a good example to all especially to women. You are one of my idols. I pray you’ll regain your strong health. You are a good person of God and I know that he will take care of you. And even if I wasn’t born yet when you became president, even if I don’t know how you handled our country back then, I know deep here in my heart that you did a splendid job. I am proud of you. And watch you fighting with your illness, inspires me to fight also with my own problems. Watching you makes me proud to be a Pinoy.

Indeed, just as Filipinos have tied yellow ribbons in trees, cars and lamp posts to show their support for Aquino, Filipinos have found more creative ways to express their thoughts and feelings online.

User JBE puts it succinctly:

The Yellow ribbons that people [have] tied everywhere will be doubled or tripled [because] people [...] supported you in the fight for democracy in Edsa. You can see by the response that not only hundreds or thousands, but millions are wishing that your condition will be okay. Again the support of country-loving Filipinos is always with you.

    To our ever compassionate President,
You have always shown us the sincerity and compassion for the Filipinos from the start. You, in your humblest and simplest ways have fought for the country in the best way, even after your term. Aside from that you have shown great grace under pressure, in the events that your family was involved in a turmoil of issues, and remained calm and stayed by their side. You are the epitomy of a great president and a very good example of a true Filipino mother.. Thank you for imparting your life to us…May the good Lord strengthen you and provide you all the healing that you need..we know that you are courageous even in these moments..our prayers are with you, MADAME WE LOVE YOU…

Cory is the only Philippine President (since Marcos up to the present time) that did not steal even a single centavo from the wealth of the Pilipino people. It is sad to know that those who are doing good things to the country and serving its people with compassion are the one who is being afflicted with this kind of disease while those people who eat corruption on their breakfast are enjoying a healthy life, nakakapag breast augmentation pa.
Lets us pray that one morning Cory will get up from her bed and walk and return to her oldself as if nothing had happenned. Madam Cory deserves a longer life, please stay alive Madam!

    Dear President Aquino,
I considered you as the second best President next to President Magsaysay. I am constantly praying for whatever is God’s Will for a person who has done a lot for our country in order to restore democracy, freedom and justice. You are indeed considered as an icon of Democracy not only in the Philippines but in the whole world. May Our Blessed Mother intercede for you, as well as, all the angels and Saints.

Cory and Ninoy Aquino are movers of true democracy in our country in their thoughts and in their actions. Democracy includes freeing the oppressed from the bondage of opportunists like the many oligarchs, the capitalists with vested interests, even poor and marginalized who take advantage of situations and allow politicians to use them to achieve their plans. The opportunists enrich themselves at the expense of the ordinary tax paying citizen who are honest and earn a decent living by corrupting and plundering the system. Actually the are preventing the improvement of the lives of the Filipino as they get in the way of true democracy.
