The Aquino family has opted for a private funeral for the late Corazon Aquino instead of a state funeral given to former presidents, according to Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Aquino said this was because his mother had chosen to be a private citizen when she finished her term in 1992, years after she was installed as the first woman president during the People Power revolution.

The democracy icon succumbed to colon cancer 3:18 am, August 1.

“We want to spend as much time as possible as a family,” said Aquino, as he thanked the public for following their advisories that visitors were not allowed at the Heritage Memorial Park.

He added that a necrology service in Malacanang might not be possible.

“I’m not anticipating an offer, I’m not asking for an offer. There’s a point in time that we would want privacy,” he said.

A public viewing, however, has been scheduled at the La Salle Greenhills gym starting 5 pm Saturday until Monday morning. The former president will then be brought to Manila Cathedral for an overnight vigil, requiem masses and necrological services. Interment will be at the Manila Memorial Park on Wednesday, the Aquino family said.

Aquino said his mother will wear her signature yellow dress and will be buried beside her husband, former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, whose assassination sparked the first EDSA revolution.

Fighting back tears during the press conference, Aquino said his sisters have been very emotional, but the death of their mother brought them closer.

“We draw strength from the five of us,” the senator said in a press conference Saturday.

He said he last talked to his mother days ago, before doctors gave the former president morphine to ease her pain.

“We were told to say everything we want to say because after the morphine she will be sleeping all the time,” he said.

He related that instead of complaining about her illness, the former president would first think about her children’s welfare or check what was on the news.

“Nung first time ko magbantay, she would ask me kung kumain na ako. Other times nagbabasa ako ng diyaryo itatanong niya ano laman niyan. She never demonstrated pain,” he said.

I would like to express my deepest concolences to the Aquino family!!! I know how hard it is for them to lose a parent and now they didn’t lose only one (Ninoy Aquino) and now their mom too who’s the 1st pinay president and the key to Philippne’s democracy passing just almost 11hrs ago.I’ve also lost my dad back in 2005 and it really hurts up to this very moment…but losing a mom is different…they’re the ones who carried us inside their wombs for nine months, they tend for us on wee hours and they’re the “ilaw ng tahanan”.We’re basically brought up and reared by our mothers because our fathers were the ones working for our future naman…But i’m happy though that my mom’s still alive and i hope she still lives longer because i want her to see me succeed in my chosen career…Again my deepest condolences…i know Pres. Cory Aquino is already at peace and happy now enjoying the company of our Dearest Creator,Our Heavenly Father…

The whole nation is now grieving because of the loss of our good leader MADAM PRESIDENT CORAZON C. AQUINO. She’s been an inspiration to many of us, she taught us how to fight for our rights and be a good Filipino.

Actually, one of my greatest dream is just to see her in person because she’s the only president (of the phils.) i admire, but now she’s gone i will just nourish all the good thing she had contributed to our country (i will definitely and proudly tell her story to my 2 kids when they grew-up).

Tita Cory… thanks you so much, i’ll surely miss you but you’ll always stay here in my heart forever.

    To Aquino family… my condolences.

My sincerest condolences to the bereaved family of Tita Cory. My heart bleeds for her passing. I feel for the family of Tita Cory because my mother, Purificacion Vasquez Velas also died of colon cancer. She died at 79, on April 28, 2004, 3 years after it was diagnosed. When Tita Cory was losing appetite, I remembered my mother during her last days. And I prayed hard when Tita Cory was brought to the hospital.
I thank God for having given us Tita Cory even for a short period of time. She is now happy with the Lord.

I am not really a pro-Cory during her time but President Aquino deserves respect. Her presidency is probably the most challenging because of the threats of the ultra-rightists soldiers and the communist rebels, the long dark hours of no electricity, the July 16 1990 earthquake, the June 1991 Mount Pinatubo eruption, the US bases issue, and the upsurge of corrupt government officials. Despite these challenges, she was able to steer the Philippines to rise from the mud.

May God Bless You, Madame President. Rest peacefully.

“Death is the only permanent thing in this world..” as they say but sometimes we can never accept fully the loss of our love ones.Being ill terribly, makes us ready about death and even be prepared that any moment it will happen. I know how sorrowful the Aquino family fell right now because once in my life I lose my better half in an instant due to cardiac arrest too, in the midst of sleep!!It’s very painful waking up with a lifeless beside you. Anyway, I would like to extend my condolences to the Aquino family. Since EDSA revolution, I always look up to Pres. Cory Aquino. She have shown her love and care to the Filipinos and I am proud to be loved by her. Everyday I read news about her and it saddened me much knowing her pains and now she have passed away. Tears may fall but it’s a relief that she had joined our creator, for her not to suffer pains and prolonged agonies anymore. MABUHAY KA PRES. CORY AQUINO!!You will always be CORY AQUINO in my heart..A mother to all FILIPINOs!!

President Cory’s death certainly strikes a sensitive core in the hearts of all the Filipino people and it hurts! Let us offer our sincere prayers for her glorious journey to the Heavenly Father. Let us also pray that those who are in power right now be touched by her death and have a change of heart. Let us joined hands so that the “Holy Spark” – that shone upon Cory when she led the country towards a renewed democracy – may likewise shine upon our present leaders. God bless Tita Cory!!!!

I was brought to tears myself over the moments, and as well, remembering my personal warmth of love shown to me by both friends I know in the Philippines and the random people I met in my times of vacation in the months of June & July, 2009! THANK U EVERYONE in the Philippines who made my times there both memorable, warm, and full of love…and for the moments of heartfelt change that Former President Aquino made in the hearts of all of U! what the hell? namatay si cory, people mourn pero pag ang ordinaryong tao namamatay kibit balikat lang kayo. face the reality people! she’s maybe the icon of democracy in the philippines but definitely she’s one incompetent president… brownout and power lockdowns, purchasing power agreement supporter, unreliable cabinet members resulting to coup de e’tats, hacienda luisita issues.. what “achievements” do you want to babble she made? she can’t even be a responsible matriarch for her own children after ninoy died.. oh my God Filipinos are being enslaved by media and the aquinos’ hypocritical appreciation.. jeez….

  • MCR said:

Thanks for being a very strong symbolism for democracy and freedom. I am amazed on how your cabinet members showed their respect and love to you…. this is something that can prove how great you have been to them. You stood as their role model…. people like Teddy Locsin, Gen./Mayor Lim and Sen. Drilon shedding tears re your loss makes me believe that you’re indeed an icon of Democracy and a Woman of real humility, courage and compassion.

At this state where the Philippines needs somebody to look up, where people can pull energy to be more patriotic … your passing would be of great effect but as you’ve always said… LOVE THY COUNTRY..may your peaceful exit wakes up the conscience of our leaders and starts to serve this grieving nation without any shadows of corruption, greed and uncertainty.

It’s a well done years ma’am. We salute you for having levelled up to the end the nobility of Ninoy’s advocacies. As you reunite with S’ Ninoy…may you guide us always and tell our Lord that HE bless the Philippines even more…..

Thank so much M’ Cory! May you rest in eternal peace. =)

Back in ‘86 I was just a grade schooler in the province, but I felt the impact of the Edsa Revolution. In the news, I saw “Cory” there, standing humble and solemn, yet right there and then “her image” made me feel an overwhelming sense of freedom, I never felt so at home in my country, I never felt so proud.

She is not just an icon of democracy, she IS GOD’s GIFT to the nation. No one has anticipated, no one even saw it coming, that a plain housewife, a mother of 5 children will move the nation into FREEDOM. God really moves in mysterious ways.

Madam President, thank you, your strength has cultivated a child’s heroism and sense of justice.

To the family, Cory’s death made the nation whole again. Enemies and friends will unite, Heaven is in GLORY welcoming her coming home.

Former President Madame Corazon Aquino is undoubtedly the mother of our modern Philippine democracy. After her presidency, she continues her services to the public in whatever capacity she can do. Hence, she will be most revered and remembered as one of the greatest leaders of our country.

I felt bad that she passed away. It should have been the corrupt leaders of this country that should have died.

The best we can offer for her is to include her in our prayers, that all the goods example she have shown to the Filipino people be continued.

I pray with the children of our former President and send my condolences to them. Indeed, the best way to reward a mother while she leaves us is by drawing strength from sibling love and care!

I know how it must hurt, for my pain is still very raw with my mom passing away just 2 month’s ago after just 8 weeks from a thyroid surgery. Our mother’s love and greatness will dwell in our hearts for eternity and Pres. Cory became a mother to all Filipinos when she led us to reclaim freedom!

I was among those graduating students then who stood by the nose of the tanks from Guadalupe and I knew why the Filipinos won that bloodless revolution… because Mother Mary was praying with us as many devout Filipinos, nuns and priests joined us armed with rosaries instead of guns.

As our dear mother of the land dies she claims her place in heaven. May we all be blessed with their prayers and realize the true meaning of EDSA Revolution that we may unite once more to propel our country to win the great economic war, by collectively seeking entrepreneurial solutions to financial crisis felt within each household and look at peace and freedom on a synonimous scale.

Dear Pres. Cory, the seeds and voice you have planted in each peace loving free heart will forever reverberate in everyone’s mind. May you be as happy in Heaven as my Mother must be now, for Jesus had taken all your pain away and given you rest and love that will never be matched even by the collective love of all of us your children!

May you forever rest in joy and peace! Salute for our mother, President Corazon C. Aquino!

I’m a straight-forward and true person. She too has her own share of anomalies during her term. And that makes her NOT, the best president of our country. I still believe Marcos’ term was the Philippine’s most prosperous. But of course, freedom is limited at that time. And that’s what the late President gave to our country. A wealthy country, she did not gave us, but a country wealthy of democracy and freedom, SHE GAVE IT TO US. And I am thankful for that. May President Aquino rest in peace and may God guide you on journey to heaven. Your contributions and legacy will live on.

it’s really hard for me to accept the fact that our former President Aquino died this morning..i never expect this kind of situation because i know that she will still be revived from her illness soon, however, about 6:30 this morning going to a seminar,i heared it from the television of a sari-sari store while buying some goods, and honestly speaking,i’m really shocked for that news,i immediately texted my mom and dad because i cannot insist not sharing it with them..my eyes became so emotional, tears voluntarily fall down and i felt so numbed all over my body while waiting for the ride..i asked HIM to saved her spirit with his kingdom in heaven, and suddenly i cannot resist to cry because i miss my grandmother, like her, whom i love so much..it’s very emotional and painful..but i’m happy because she will be living with our Lord, and she already surpassed the pain she was experiencing while confined in the hospital..i pray for our President Cory Aquino that she will still handling our country in peace and in greatness while living with our Lord..thank you for all the things you’ve done to our country..we will miss you.. :(

    To the family Aquino;

Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth, Yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labours.

So maybe it is painful to accept your Moms lost from now, but soon you will realized that once she had accepted God in her life, then nothing to worry about because she is with the Lord in peace without pain anymore, and from her time of long suffering surely she had all the time praying as she was a prayerful woman now she was at peace with the Lord and is happy with the Lord because she had done her part to your family, and to our country the best of it which would never be forgotten and is a part of a Philippine history, so be brave to face the coming day as more trials be coming, but God is always with your family circle to win victoriously and many people loves your mom & your family circle.

God has a purpose in every people, but he will never leaves nor forsake your family circle, these are just a trial in our part but at least we know where to cry on in times like this and a time to remember all her goodness and advices as mom and a mom to all Filipinos. She may be physically absent but in memory she’s always there for us to be proud of and you’re lucky to have a mom like her. We’re lucky to have her as a Brave woman,God always watches over you all especially in troubles like this, loves & cares for your family. Mabuhay!

Politics should be set aside during times of mourning… our time will also come and we expect to go in a manner we greatly deserve.
