The real beauty of a woman
Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno (AFP)

Yahoo! Malaysia
Earlier today, the world crowned Venezuela’s Stefania Fernandez as its new Miss Universe. Halfway across the globe, another woman – Malaysian model Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno, a Muslim, was unexpectedly released by religious authorities shortly after she was taken away for caning.
These two women are worlds apart and probably will never meet, but they have more in common than most of us would think.
So what do a beauty queen and a mother of two have in common? These two women, who are different in many ways, represent the evolving role of women in society today. Women are no longer the ‘weaker sex’ as some would like to believe.
Kartika, who was scheduled to be caned for drinking beer under Shariah law, showed extraordinary strength by accepting her sentence despite appeals on her behalf by rights group Amnesty International. The mother of two herself didn’t appeal the sentence, but asked for her punishment to be carried out in public.
Kartika’s punishment will be carried out after Ramadan, but her release has also sparked questions as to whether Islamic authorities did the right thing.
But there are many other women in the world like Kartika.
There is a certain beauty about women that is more than skin deep. Women can be both beautiful and strong. We are mothers, wives, children, girlfriends, engineers, doctors, and Presidents. There is much to celebrate indeed.
What traits do you think we should celebrate about women?

Women should be strong and should not be influenced unconciously by religions that demean women.
She is an arrogant person. She committed a SIN and go public just to get sympathy. Moreover, she said that this is the second time she’s drinking BEER!!!!!!!……..ALLAH only KNOWS if she’s telling the truth.
By the way, did she knows that drinking beer is prohibited in ISLAM.
Then, WHY CREATED A SCENE………..
She deserved to be FINED, CANNED and JAILED.
Whatever the punishment she is about to receive, must abide to muslim law as we know, where ever we are, we must abide to the country’s rule and regulations. Even muslim men will be cane if caught not only women.
Din pls dunno critic ppls who make a SIN juz bcos she drinking BEER. If i drink a ROOT BEER who i get caught also?
No doubt a sin have been done but a woman should not be caned. In Islam we are more in forgiving and may GOD do the punishment and this will be done during “Kiamat”.
Drinking beer is not only done by woman but also man. Till now is there any canning done to them?
A Sin is still a Sin but canning for drinking beer is not right…especially to a woman.
FINE maybe…canned and jailed is not the right thing.
Is drinking beer such a severe sin that she has to be caned? Knowing Allah means knowing LOVE, is this punishment showing love to the people??
Quotation, “Women are no longer the ‘weaker sex’ as some would like to believe.” by Wendy Ferrer.
Women has never been a weaker sex. It is the secularize system which is manipulating and twisting the facts. Most Women, not all, in this secularize is the tool for propaganda. simply puppets.
Slavery by secularize system:
1)Woman a Pornographic tool to destroy man on commercials, movies, adult and even children program mes. Many ignorant woman still deny.
2)Women today are intelligent? Well boys, Education system can chose to pass or fail anybody and anyone who fit the satanic quota. The reality is..as always Man creates and discover but women copy and paste information from man. after which they call them selves heroins. By nature and proven in history of mankind. Man are natural born leaders in various ways.
3)Woman unconsciously became slave to education and material. A psychological warfare by media for a short term happiness which guarantees nothing but more effort for satan.
4)By nature women can never be as strong than a man physically unless women challenge gays. That is why the system promotes the human law of “gay-ism” to liberate this satanic system.
5)Non of the secularized liberated women understand the outcome of their actions in near future. Simply non, except for those who have a purpose and mission for the one that creates.
6)Go ahead bear those clothes,we’re sure to survive the ozone’s radiation causing skin cancer due to global warming cause by moderation. Time will tell.
7)Go ahead eat pork, the H1N1 can never evolve said the Zionist scientist. Force the orthodox Jews to start eat pork. The fact is Zionist Jew will rule the world after 2012. Zions are the only purest above all they claimed.
People this is just a small example. So start realizing the difference between the God’s law and human made law by Satan.
We should not negatively judged a person by the way he/she acted and comment that person as arrogant for we ourselves are sinners whether intentionally or unintentionally in our daily lives. For only Allah knows and for only Allah to judge. In the case of Kartika, she indulged in something that is prohibited by Syariah law and she has to face it. As for her character in this case it is not ordinary strength. There are many women out there in war torn country/ racial riot country who are extra ordinary in protecting their family and children.
Nowadays, most of the muslim do drink beer…etc We should give them a chance, to change.
“Spare the rod n spoil the child”..
I am a firm believer of the use of cane when children are young.
I just caned my child 5 mins ago cos’ he hit his sister for “fun”.
Well, I respect the religion of Islam that prohibits beer drinking.
The fact that a law was broken and thus there was consequence.
I do not pin point any women in particular but I want to do my very best to train up my children in the way they should go, and should caning be the case when they are young, let it be so that it could prevent them from future caning by the prison, which would definitely leave a greater external scar n permanent scar in the heart.
To me, as a mother of 3, all I want is to leave a legacy 4 my children to follow.
I want to be remembered as a mother that does her best to be who she is and be unconditonal to love her children for who they are and yet firm even to melt out discipline like caning out of pure love for them.
That’s itself I tink…is real beauty of a woman
There is no big fuss about this case at all!
She is a muslim, she jolly well know the rules to it so she had better abide the law of the religion she pledge!!!!!!
As the saying in mandarin goes:
“When one is willing to be beaten and the other willing to beat”
It is actually none of our business especially this is religion.
Let’s say if Malaysia start to implement cane upon any drinkers regardless of religions, then sue them!
Maybe its time for muslim to start respecting their religion since it is so strict? There’s always a way, get out of it or abide their rules.
This woman is not worth the daily headline news on her please, we have bigger issue to be worried about.
In this case, I trully trully really believe that she just looking for attention.
Malaysia have a lot of population and it is quite silly that this became a big news.
It is also irrationable that the so called court delays the punishment. It s like playing house, Did they not announce when the date for the canning is? So indecisive and unprofessional.
And I really didn t know, how did people find out she s drinking alcohol? She went to the bar herself with family/friends that then reported her? Or customers that accidentally see her drinking and report it to people?
Previously she implied that she s ashamed of her doings and yet I fell the news was blown so big. Is it just me? Or does other also feel this news is sooo fake?
at least she don harm or kill pple. people call this a sin, those people might have committed even worse sins.
Yes, drinking beer is a violation under Islam. True but a lot of muslims in Malaysia (johor, malacca, KL, etc) including your leaders also drink alcohol? They are your leaders and moreso should set a good example…so why are they NOT punished? If it is wrong under Islam, then it is wrong pure & simple. BUT it appears that they are above God’s law or is it man’s law?? So jangan kasi perempuan malu. Yes she made a mistake but don’t lah show the whole world that malaysia is a woman beater and a hypocrite.
You can go down anytime in malaysia and see muslims gambling & drinking and more widely known practise – corruption. Are all these not against Islam? Ah yah, this is fasting month, practise the spirit of Islam, forgiveness. She repented. Forgive. Oh else imagine she take revenge and she can go round taking photos of muslims drinking, gambling, corruption, etc & put on youtube and wah lah terok you have to cane hundreds of muslims daily, including the govt and police officials, banyak?
One last thing, religion is between you & God, rite. You sin you answer to God, hell or heavan. But kalua she kena rotan, here in earth, then kena punish again when she die, tak betul babe. Even common sense tell you cannot punish 2x for the same mistake, betul.
I salute her for she is doing but not to forget, we are living in the modern world. she wants to drink that is her own right and what is religion got to do with it and punishing such innocent. really weird customs
Anyway, I’m not sure why Kartika demanded public caning and i question her motives, and if she was compelled to do so to compensate for the shame her father felt.
If caning is part of the law, so be it, but it must be carried out because she truly deserved it, and not because she’s being made an example of. There are many muslims who drink blatantly – I’ve seen it myself. Will they all be caned too?
KingKong has very strong views about women and their place in the world, to the point of being chauvinistic. I wonder where he (i suppose) got them from? I hope he can substantiate them, especially when saying that men create and women copy and paste.
FYI KingKong, genetically male embryos can develop into physically female infants due to a a malfunction in a particular gene during foetal development. Males are also more susceptible to certain impairments like color-blindness due to the missing “leg” on the Y chromosome i.e. males inherit certain features from the “female” X chromosome only. How’s that for female leadership? ;P
Let him who has no sin hit the first stroke of the cane.
All of u get this straight,
1. Do not attempt to insult Islam.
2. You singaporeans chinese, female & male,Do not attempt to make this issue as a battle of sexes, undermine Islamic teachings
3. pls go to the nearest police station and insult Islam straight direct……
4. Dun provoke singapore society to challenge Islam, while you hid behind a computer. You are pure wicked…..
The Malaysian ‘islamic’ system is clearly flawed and not even islamic to begin with.
For instance, their have a special police force that conducts raids to look for and punish couples conducting fornication. This is in fact haraam (forbidden in islam), and is clearly stated in the Qur’an, Surat Hujarat. La tajassus. Do not spy. But that is what they are doing. They are looking and exposing people in sin. God The Veiler has screened them in order to give them time that they may repent. Such is His Mercy. Those who love exposing the sins of others will themselves be exposed in the hereafter. Who ever set up that special force clearly does not understand of God’s mercy and has a base understanding of the religious law (shar’iah). Such are the actions taken by those who lack wisdom in God’s laws.
i think she should be caned. It will no only teach her a lesson but to all muslims too.
To those who criticised, admit your own wrongdoings first. If the punishment were to be canning too, would you do what she has done?
To admit one’s mistake takes great courage, more so to face the consequences. The least she will get is forgiveness, provided she never repeats her mistake again. It is part of our natural process of growing and learning.
Unless you’re someone who never says sorry for anything you’ve done, you have no right to criticise her.
Too strong for their own good.too bad she is at the wrong place, wrong time, wrong circumstances.my heart goes out to her.
Those who think Islam demeans women, please read the Quran and Hadith. Women have a higher status in Islam than most people think. Women have similar rights to men. Women were treated without dignity in pre-islamic era. Even women had the right to vote only in the 1900s in the western world.A mother carried us in her womb for 9 month. Child birth takes more courage than any men going to the battlefield. How can anyone or any religion bring women to a lower status?
For those who says she should be dealt with harshly cause she drinks and go against the religion. I say. Reflect. How can WE judge her. No matter how good we think we are, we still have flaws. We are just humans. Only God can judge. Syariah law is made harsh to avoid people from doing or repeating a mistake. For it to be even put to practice takes alot of conditions.
IT TAKE COURAGE TO STEP OUT AND ADMIT ONES MISTAKE.
We should give her and all mothers a heads up.
Peace.
Wow, this is why i hate too-religious countries.
SHE drank beer and has to be caned, 6 times just cause her religion forbade alcohol?
Ok, but why should she be caned? Why can’t she be just given a hefty fine etc? The reason this incident is popularized is because she’s a WOMAN who only drank a few alcohol has to be caned 6 times cause of the forbiddance of alcohol in a religion.
I am a Muslim. And i’m ashamed of what the Malaysian govt’ is doing. Our religion is the rotten apple of the world, for those of you who’s not aware. Too much atrocities has been used in the name of our religion, Islam and Allah. Instead of giving a positive balance to it, we’re making things worse.
Even Indonesia, the most populated Muslims country in the world, doesn’t showcase such fanaticism in their laws and govt.
grace verus law – i hope that grace will be shown to this model and should it be given to her, she will accept it. punishment is only meant to deter her and others from doing the same mistake. all the publicity is enough to deter her and others.
i hope her family and her will accept this grace to forgive herself and to move on. i also hope that should the malaysian government choose grace above law, the world will appluad them for their generous and gracious spirit and the case will have a great ending!
din..sebagai org islam awak patut tahu dan malu dengan kritikan awak tu. tidak menampakkan cara org islam pun,,,siapa awak untuk menghakimi manusia…masyallah
She is beautiful, serene and courageous and does not deserve to be caned for such a trivial matter. My belief is that Malayisa will now cave in to pressure and not have her caned at all.
That doesn’t mean caning is never right, and it is either sometimes right for men and women or never right for either. It should be reserved for real, damaging offences and applied equally, severely if necessary but not to scar for life and not to break skin.
I believe Malaysia have a very strict rules that also affect in their religion. On the other hand, I admire them that they are not influenced by the western countries that they imposed higher tax on beer, liquors and cigarretes so their fellow muslims will not be tempt to buy. I admire your (muslim) religion becoz it also applied in your govt regulations… Less drinker, less trouble….
Everyone is responsible for his/her own doing and sins. We are no one to judge this. We do not decide who goes to heaven or hell. So if one doesn’t do what his religion requires of him, let him be judged his God, rather than we take the laws into our own hands. I see no point to force someone into submission of some basic believes of a religion. If he can choose to disobey it once, he can do it again. All that refrain him from doing so is his own conscience and faith. If he is too faithless to follow the most simple restrictions, then let him face the punishment in the end himself.
This is absurd, What stupid muslim law???? in what reason was she wrong in drinking beer? This is the 21st century my goddness and i strongly believed she is not wrong to do that. It is an insult and disgrace to women of this century by accepting the punishment. We women should not be a weakling, accepting punishments because of a ridiculous. Moreover, she is a public figure, a model who parades herself showcasing in the most trendy clothings and yet she willingly accepts law that should be rescrind and impractical!
she just want to be famous.
wrong is wrong. U cannot simply turn it to sympathy…
she should pray n thank to Allah for giving her a chance to fasting n may be celebrate hari raya with her family without pain….
But see…what happened?…she made a police report n accused Jabatan Agama want to play with her because of extended date to punish her.
Unbeleiveable…she’s arrogant….
what can i say….God knews everything but as a human we should always follow the rules….life must have rules….
something happened must have a reason….
and the first word should come out from her mouth is ‘ALHAMDULILLAH!’ meaning Thank God or Syukur pada Allah….but……i dont know….
forgiveness is the best in our life….but if u done a sin…u should know…..
5 In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11″No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
John 8: 5-11
If someone commited adultery can be forgiven why not drinking beer is just a act of celebration…
Hi everybody,
Nazis, cmmunists, muslims fondamentalist are all the same kind. They want to control the people and make sure you become a docile slave serving the system blindly.
The western world is the best place to grow holly because you have the ultimate choice to control your desires and pulsions but you have to be discipline and strong. The best path for me is to follow my heart ,think by myself and practice compation every minute of my life.
It’s no need to know by heart 400 pages or more of a so called holly book, just follow the 10 commandments and you will be fine for this life.
Muslim fondamentalists are wrong, are teaching wrongly and have an immature approach of spirituality. They are serving the dark side of humanity and will perish in the flammes of hell till the judgment day.
In fact, to be honnest with you, i don’t believe to a punishing god and i don’t believe to hell aswell. But more important, these people believe in hell and hell is the place they will go. Face the responsabilities of your acts, be an adult, a mature soul.
God bless you all.
Lol at all those conspiracy, uneducated opinions of those who think the Islamic way of life is the best… Was it me, or was the Islamic community much more educated, tolerant, respectful, scientific, and overall more HUMANE than the one we have today? Man makes the religion, not the other way round. And that being the case, Muslims who lived a thousand years ago are definitely much better human beings and overall more rational than the ones who live today despite all the free information and education around to make objective references on issues. Just live and let live I say, why should a government of the people be quagmired by the laws and traditions of one book? If humankind be guided by reason for its long existence, and this government be a government for its people, then goddammed it should be at least reasonable enough to understand that humans will be humans, and will always have their shortcomings. What will a single caning (public or otherwise) punishment do except to stir up more controversy, and to momentarily please hardcore religious conservatives?
Katrika is a smart muslim lady. It is good that she can think better than the general muslim men (quite dumb & corrupted). Why I say this? She knows that if she is canned publicly, this will set the precedent for such actions to be carried out to drinkers, etc. She knows that in general muslim men are hypocrites and 100% there will be such offences daily occurring amongst them and within the govt & police & military. It is happnening right now & is rampant, corruption, drinking, bribery, womanising, etc. So she knows the caning will not take place. Further more, why pick on her when everyday you have thousands of muslims drinking, womanising, cheating, taking bribes, etc. Why didn’t the law punish them – going on for donkey years?
So take note – Islam is a beautiful religion but given to rule in the hands of the idiots, illiterate (this case is a good example), ignorant and fanatical, it is now blemished as a intolerable religion that cannot co-exist with others and worst still amongst itself. Religion is between you & Allah. The Koran is a good guide to live a pious and honourable earthy life in servitude of god’s laws. It is about choosing God’s love & his way vs other paths. But the key note here is choice not fear.
Yup. She is a strong lady…
To call her arrogant is as stupid as the court’s sentence – maximum fine, maximum caning for a first offence that was admitted and regretted, all mitigating factors in any sane judicial system.
She won’t be caned at all now in my opinion but that is not because Malaysia belatedly sees it was wrong and cruel in the first place but because it is terrified about the image the case rightly gives their country and will do whatever it takes to have her spared.
Officials have wriggled and wriggled – almost as if it was their backsides that had been caned – in their attempts to get off the hook, even trying to get her to get them off the hook by appealing. All credit to Kartika for refusing to play their game and be manipulated, leaving them looking like idiots as they tried to say the caning couldn’t happen
1: because she hadn’t been sentenced to jail so therefore couldn’t be taken inside for her caning
2: that they couldn’t cane her because it was Ramadan (as if they didn’t know)
and 3: they couldn’t cane her because they didn’t know how to
I was caned at school, so were my brother and sister probably having earned it.
I have seen behaviour over the years that could warrant caning I am not soft on crime. Drinking three glasses of beer as an adult of 32 is not a crime that merits such punishment, even if the sharia version of caning would hardly have hurt her.
Malaysia deserves the press it has had over this and has only itself to blame that all over the world, people are posting pictures on the web of bruised and bloodied buttocks as if that is what was going to happen to Kartika
Dear All,
I am a Muslim too, however the sentence that this lady is about to get is hysterical to all. too loud and too much.
Doesnt matter man or women subject to this cane shud NOT deserve it. It is only showing shame to herself and family and even my religion.
I can only say she is one of the unlucky zillions of muslin in this earth to occur on herself.
I hope the best for her… and fromthe bottom of my heart i PITIED THE KIDS MORE THAN ANYTHING… And pray its a lesson for the kids and practical for her…
as we know drinking beer is prohibited in islam, but in this case frankly speeking i just cant stand with kartika, done a mistake and still challenging the authority, what a shame.
Kartika is not normal. After the sentence being read, a normal person will ask for leniency. But instead she asked to be carried out in public immediately. What is she doing? Any punishment in public will be videoed and spread around the world via internet. Is she alone or is it a political conspiracy?
For the love of God!!! Model?? She has a face that is definitely meant for burqa modelling.
The Shariah law is obsolete for this 21st century world.
Whipping cannot change a person heart and clean his or her soul from sin. Noway!!. It only cause hatred towards society who created the law. Whipping is imperfection, meaning any thing imperfect is no from God. God is perfection. So why whipping another child of God??
Only love can change the heart. Whipping noway!!
Hell with this draconian cruel shariah law!!
God assuredly will punish those shariah law inventors. Allah is GREAT.
Small fish get canned, Big fish couldnt be canned. Why ashame of canning of woman in public? Simple answer, the enforcer ashame of being rediculed he.he.he…coz Many people will say that the authority has nothing to do with the big problems thats why he hide from his inefficiency and concealed from people by canning the ass of anybody including woman.
i do not agreed that caning is the best way. I respect Islam and all other religions.
With all the media attention, it just reinforce all the negativity of Islam to the world who dont understand the religion. I believed that Islam like all religion promotes peace and promote wellness within community.
Well the law is there to be respected and follow but i hope the authorities be lenient with her in meting her punishment.
The muslim police should not have acted like ” Champions of Islam” True muslims should behave like mentors and teach the ignorant. Patience prevails.
Kartika… maybe you wanted to expose the ignorance in the system.
Tetapi chukup lah setakat ini. Bersabar. Jangan lah terlalu sombong sampai nak memalukan agama dan jual agama. Jangan bakar kelambu kerana seekor nyamok.
As for the rest of you:
Remember Michael Fay…. the kid who shamed his biological father who had gone through so much and also shamed his president. The law is the law. Vandalism is still feared in Singapore.
As for Sally:
READ….. so you wont stay stupid….. READ
Old man of the sea.
I think that once a person embraced his/her culture, tradition and religion, he/she must abide by its laws and practices. Therefore, not following the norm is subject to a sanction or penalty of some sort. As to the weight of her disobedience it is up to the written law or agreed commitment to it to decide what act must be done not only to one single woman but to the rest of its followers. I would rather pay the price for what i did here on earth, if it is considered a sin, than to pay for it later on.
I think she should repent and ask forgiveness from Allah…for God is forgiving to all mankind
Her sins will be between her & Allah the Almighty, not for us human to judge
Hey ppl really this issue is none of our business. This is not the first neither will it be the last coming out from that place. Let’s just get on with our hectic and demanding life and say a thankful prayer that it’s not happening in SG. No point debating even if everyone has good intentions – it will never end and nothing good will comes out of it…so just leave it.
Please guys, respect the sensitivity of ones religion. In Islam it is perceived that alcohol is the cause of all evil. Human tend to lose their balance and integrity after consuming alcohol. The history is there. Alcohol causes violence, death and destruction. Be it drink driving, family abuse, murder and so on and so forth. The list is there. The reason why Islam took a very strong standing that it should not be consume at all. If its about humane, what happens if this woman after drinking, got into her car and drove. Then suddenly, your loved ones involved in an accident with her car and got killed? Have you all thought about that? Any person, or any government, emphasize that when you drink, don’t drive. An anyone will dare to say this words, that is because they are sober. What happens when you’re drunk? Your words you vow, are nothing! This is what happen. If you think you have responsibility, then so be it. Sooner or later, there bound to be something happen.
And please, don’t be naive…. Look at her face, is that an innocent face? She wanted this attention. The slashing she gonna had are not as bad as when a children get from their parents. Parents when angry, will with ill intent, punish their children severEly. For her, its like a beating your palm using a small rotan.
Lastly, Islam never demean woman. In fact, woman are highly regarded as high esteem as a holy person. The fact that they borne a child, look after the household and so on is a very big undertaking for a petite woman. So please get your facts right before commenting. Islam is love and care. She this woman, kartika, need to be taught a lesson because her own dad is useless. Wonder where is her husband with this hoo haa huh? Hmmmm….
No one religion; be it Islam, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism etc exist to demean women. It is only ignorant people who blatantly demean themselves.
hohohoho wake up,what related your allah and BEERRRRRRRRRRRRRR?????
very funny wakakakakakaka!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is bullshit, In malaysia Politician can kill people but can go away scot free, can rob people, police accepting bribes but drink beer talk like so big “SIN”like tat. Dun act holy lah…..
are you talking about god or goat? god that has child can be slap and cane like kartika. what a joke?
If she is a true believer of Islam, she shouldn’t question the punishment of her sin by canning. She is the type of woman who spoilt the truth about Islam Religion. She deserve to be canned.
Please for God’s sake the Muslims has always preach their religion to be sacred and yet there are so many cases of they raping their own children and bombing and killing others. Stop this bullshit and stop hidding behind your religion. I will never trust a Muslim…
Dear Wendy,
Probably the most vile comment I have seen regarding this subject. The reason why the woman has not appealed against the decision is because she *cannot* afford to. She has not been in employment to accommodate the judiciary system in Malaysia, for which she has left her profession in Singapore. If you think that the Islamic system in that country is somehow fair at all, let alone to Malays alone, it’s a great step into a point of no intellectual return for you. Are you at all justifying Islamic Shariah within a secular society?! Are we back into the medieval times of death by stoning, then?
I am rather surprised, given a choice, a financial one, this lady would choose to avoid this situation, as anyone would. Are imaginary biblical (since the Quran is in fact a product of the Judeo-Christian framework anyway) sins at all any business of the state. Isn’t the drinks her own choice, or would the state send an attorney into ‘heaven’ after her death. Or would her Islamic teachers represent her ‘up there’. Are you aware of the sheer logical suicide of this proposition?
Seriously, reporters such as yourself are an embarrassment. Not that I condone feminism, but this is the lowest of the low.
Yeap Malaysia….the land where anal sex, political sex scandals, and LAZY CORRUPTED malays come from. If only i can get a nuclear weapon, malaysia and all the pak haji sundal i will bomb first! Oh and if u camels never drink beer before, heh,,,u dont know what ur missing out…take a break for yer 24/7 prayers and join me at the black eyed peas concert…u poor 2nd class citizens!
She did something that is wrong in Islam, she should face up to Allah on the matter. I dont think we should be the one to judge her and punish her. Canning a woman is simply not right. Now that the news is all over the world, how does Malaysia look in the eyes of the others. I am far away from Malaysia, on the other side of the world. Over here, in our eyes, Malaysia looks ridiculous.
First of all, the government of that country has got to get their act together. I am talking about a level playing field (is it ever leveled? anywhere?) Two track court system going in different directions. Off- springs of Muslim ministers and politicians, and they themselves having a ball of a time indulging themselves, in most things prohibited under Islamic laws and practices?? Come on!! Wake up, the whole world knows about it. If you want to punish one, make sure you punish all, Otherwise, just leave the poor woman alone, and stop making yourselves good materials for a comedy show during this gloomy time.
What traits do you think we should celebrate about women?
My comment is beside the underlying skin beauty, woman should pose a certain level of intelligence and wisdom which I think in my opinion they have it already. The question here is whether they know how to bring out (express) this level of intelligence and beauty.
Scientifically it has already been proven that woman mature faster than man, therefore their level of wisdom and intelligence is in no way worse of than male.
Just bring it out from you that’s all it need, understand woman ‘Jia You’
This is something for thought relating to the Kartika fiasco, no answers are required:
- not eating forbidden food + no drinking + being honest/incorruptible/no stealing + not going to Madonna/Avril Lavigne/Black Eyed Peas concerts + pray 5 times a day = good Muslim, go to heaven?? for sure??
- eating forbidden food and/or drinking alcohol and/or lie/accept bribe/steal and/or don’t pray or pray less than/more than 5 times a day = bad Muslim, go to hell?? for sure??
How many will go to heaven?? How many will go to hell??
clue: Have you ever met a perfect human being? If yes, we can start a cloning franchise and make this a better world.
If no, let’s just drink, sing some songs, talk some “roosters” and meet everybody down there.
How many say that YUS is an idiot? The biggest arogant idiot i have heard…
I agree with Din. If u r a muslim n u know it is wrong to drink any kind of alchohol or beer then why u drink it. That goes for all muslim man n woman.
She have a two small daughter not right way to give her this punishment. its unfair.
She drinks beer and so what is the fuse all about ???
Funny things happen all around us. It is one of them.
women has counsellor, just conusel adverits in the news paper that muslim women cant drink some place. Law is in the book, but not all of them know what is right and wrong?
If it is for her frist time to do mistake, than country should right way to give her chance and warn for frist time mistaker.
we are human, no one perfect in the world, but we need education to learn to protect ourself.
She is mother of two child, we also have mother, if the mother have this kind of punishment, how the child feel?

I think is is very very cruel to cane a muslim in public just because she drinks alcohol? Her father is really ridiculous! There are many out there in malaysia, where malay muslim does many sinful things! This lady just happen to be at the wrong place and at the wrong time!
They can’t make people repent for caning her in public!
Give her a chance to repent.
She still have to pay for her sins too after she die right?!
Hard to believe that the notion of women’s equality can share the same paragraph as a discussion on the sinfulness of drinking beer and actual corporal punishment of a woman. I am often shocked at the contradictions of a modern South East Asia that can still embrace things that were clearly written for a diferent period in history. One that is past. Women’s equality is a modern notion worth serious consideration. Modernization carries both pro’s and con’s. One is the unfortunate abandonment of ideals that many carry close to their hearts and perhaps believe represent faith in their religion. At the same time so many other things have resulted from modernization such as medical research et cetera, that I think we should begin to understand that some things we will need to allow. I would suppose God and Satan are perhaps a little busy to worry about a model, who makes a living portraying herself as symbol of female attraction in photos, has gone further and had a beer in public. I doubt that either of them have thought of her much at all. In a few months, I doubt anyone reading this blog will be thinking of her either.
Kartika, the only way out is to seek HIS guidance. The REAL BEAUTY OF A WOMAN is not to succumb to the caning imposed on you but is the WILL TO FIGHT for any unjust and abused on women. You have the right to APPEAL, why not take this opportunity (though your deadline to appeal has ended). In Malay proverb “Mengalah Bukan Bermakna Kita Kalah”. Some people think that when we received our punishment in the world, our punishment in hereafer will be lessened. ALLAH is AL MIGHTY and FORGIVEN. Take the delay in your sentencing as a HIKMAH. Take this opportunity and the month of Ramadhan to SHOLAT ISTIKHARAH. I am not a Malaysian but I am a Muslim and a mother of 2 children. Please think of the implications the caning will bring to ISLAM and perhaps your children. Don’t allow other opportunists who are against ISLAM, to take this issue to demeaning ISLAM further. Take the heeds of your leaders to appeal. The people who imposed the sentences are just human, please forgive them for their ignorance and flaws. They will also be judged by HIM in the hereafer. There are other ways to redeem our sin, Kartika. ALLAH knows.
I think its all crap!
To begin with, in the first place, how can a country be run by a religion? Govermental laws and muslim laws are both saperate issues.
Are malays naturally born into the muslim religion?
How does human rights work?
All questions…………no logic.
She is a disgrace to Islam and Muslim women. However, they are many out there like her….hypocrisy…call themselves Muslim but live like kafir just to be accepted…What’s new?
I think the ‘End of the World’ is coming!!!
Muslims are crucifying muslims.
What if all countries is run by religion?
Would it be a better world to live in?
I tell you ‘End of the World’ is coming!!!
what is the use of a blog site when one cannot express themself freely.
Where is the freedom of speech?
Kartika is a smart woman.
She knows that she will not be caned eventually. All this is just publicity.
Why are there no raids in KL? you will find there all the sins that is clealy visible.
Sons and daughters of big shots are having wonder ful time! drinking women, just name it…you can get it.
why kartika then? her husband is rite beside her…he is answerable for all her sins..(that is according to islamic law) as he is supposed to be guiding her to the right path.
muhammad our prophet, never hurt an animal…far less a human. a non believer was caught defecating a mosque where he always goes too, our prophet clean up the mess with his holy hands and prayed for the well ness and health of the person who did injustice to the holy place.
after 3 times…the non believer couldnt take it anymore and beg forgive ness from muhammad and wanted to be brought into the religion which is so forgiving and beautful..what does this teach us?
If anyone of you think that islam demeans women…please
note one simple point:
Muslim women are FORBIDDEN to take after their husband’s name after marriage. Not like any other religion i know of.
Muslim women do not have to give up all assests required during her marriage once the husband dies, in fact it rightfully belongs to her and her children..check on the Jewish religion and you will be shocked.
the above only 2 example there are more!!
I don’t really understand the relegion. it’s all about controlling and selfishness. In the bible, God did not say to crucify the sinners but forgive. Jesus sacrifice for our sins.
If she chose to drink beer whilst she knows it is Haram in islamm well its her choice, she will answer that to God not she will be punished becuase its Haram in the religion. thats not really acceptable.
this is not just being a woman but about truth.
Ching
Diff ctrys –> Diff cultures –> Diff laws … But she has a choice – she chose to be caned
Those who drinks are not Muslim, they could be malay, but they are not muslim if they are not practising what were taught to them by the Prophet.
Religion VS Human Rights:
There’s a fine line between religion & human rights when both are set together. As for me there’s no doubt that Islam’s law is set right but the punishment in order to make the believers to obey… is that right?
Here’s some question I do not understand myself:
(1)There’s no “force” in Islamic believes, so why is there a punishment to re-inforce the Islamic rules?
Mother of 2 children is not child.
Yes, she has a real beauty of women because she has 2 children.
Woman carry the baby by her own blood. Men should kind, take care and tender the real woman.
I think women of today were much different besides beauty, they have self-confidence, courageous and assertive. They can do what man can…no longer a housewife which focus only in the four corners of the house.
They love sharing time with other women who are empowering other women…in this way shows how intelligent and strong women they are…thanks
Who are we to judge?
Din should be more open-minded before he voice out his views.
In the world today, many Muslims drink. Be it in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and even the middle east. Yes,middle-east, the place every Muslim look up to for some “religous reasons”. If you do your reading, you should know. Kartika just happen to be at the wrong place, at the wrong time. If she can be canned, so does every Muslim who drinks in Malaysia. Where’s the justice?
She is “man” enough to take responsibility for her actions while many people out there would have appealed because they are caught at bad timing. Like I said, many Muslims do drink. Justice must be served to ALL.
I am a Muslim, and I have never drink in my entire life. Just like any Muslim who don’t, I despise the act of Muslim drinking. Simply because its like spitting not only on your own face, but every Muslim in the world. But there is no need to be pro about it and calling people names like assuming that the person is arrogant, especially when she do not have the intention of being so… It is called “Fitnah” Mr Din. That too is prohibited by Islam. And as a true Muslim, you should know what the sin of “Fitnah” is equal too. That sin, Mr Din, is bigger than the sin of drinking.
The problem with the community now is that they allow themselves to doings which are prohibited, stating that it is a small sin. A sin is a sin whether it is small or big. At the first place, I believe all RELIGIOUS prohibit drinking, gambling, protituting and many others, but look around us, what is happening, so sad. What is happening?
Our body is the temple of GOD, we may believe in one GOD , but we have different views of exercising our beliefs. Though respect is to be accorded to religious practices, it does not mean to escape from criticism. When God declares our body as his temple that we should not spoil it , He does not give authority to man to punish he who does things harmful to his own body so long as it does not harm the others.
keep it simple earthlings……this is about a person choosing to want to have a beer. what’s wrong people?
do not complicate it with race, gender, religion, politics, your being holier complex and all that jazz.
fact of the matter is those who pass judgments against another of his own species are no “cleaner” than the next. By definitions, we all have sins, we are sinners, so no amount of sanitizing by the guidance of another sinner is going to do jack shit.
If God were to have to zap a streak of lightning on those people, to show us who has no sins? everything will be still, you will see no streak of lightning because there is no one to zap.
to those holely people out there, get real, get a real job, so you can pay for your own beer. go do your preachings in some other planet.
I agree with Mohamed. I am not a muslim, but drinking beer either woman or man is not good, its effect on health, on brain, on aura as a person. We as an adult especially as a mother should be a role model to our children. Drinking beer and accepting punishments from this reason is not a basis to be called as a strong woman. Strong & brave people are those who sacrifice for their love ones, for other people and for the nation and not on this kind of acts.
And for the act of canning in Muslim community, I don’t think God or their Allah has said to them “hey, beat her with a cane a hundred times” but their law created by HUMAN who is under the political/ religious group and NOT BY GOD OR their ALLAH. Father from above wouldn’t want any of his people to get hurt in any possible way.
It’s her fault, if she can’t abide with the rules of the religious group she’s in, she should not join there. Anyway, that is pretty common thing to drink beer if she happens not to be a muslim.
Look at what happened again – no for muslim to Black Eyed Pea concert but now allow become OK again. So why bother to debate when they always make a monkey out of themselves.
women are considered strong individuals…ought to be respected…but women should respect themselves first to earn the respect of others
