Done and dusted. Four days of mass hysteria and raging Red passion, Liverpool’s stay in Singapore is finally over. And the Reds fans must feel satiated. Or are they?

Eight years. That’s how long Singapore has waited for the Reds to make their grand appearance and this time round, fans were given long-awaited opportunities to meet the Reds up close and personal.

And how they lapped it up. From traveling to Velocity @ Novena for an autograph with Fernando Torres and Jamie Carragher, to meeting Javier Mascherano and Alvaro Arbeloa at Courts Megastore, Singapore fans made sure they were both seen and heard.

That wasn’t enough.

The following day, 4,000 scarf-waving fans lined up along the Singapore River on Saturday afternoon, decked in a sea of red Liverpool jerseys, just to catch a glimpse of their favourite players as they sailed past on a river cruise.

I have always dreamed of cheering on my Liverpool heroes at the club’s famous Anfield stadium on Merseyside. On Sunday night, that dream came close to reality when I joined a stunning sea of red at the National Stadium, cheering and singing lustily to Liverpool’s anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”.

Anfield had truly arrived in Singapore.

Rafa himself was impressed. He said after the match, “The tour has been a success, especially in terms of support. When you plan tours like this, it feels like a week is a long time to be away but when you see the faces of the fans, it makes it all worth it.”

Other stars were somewhat taken aback by the level of crazy support. ”It’s very nice to see so many supporters from Singapore. I know we have a lot of fans here, but I didn’t know we have so many. We really enjoyed our time here,” said Dirk Kuyt, who earlier helped Fernando Torres score his first pre-season goal.

Midfielder Yossi Benayoun was equally impressed.

It didn’t end there. After the match, die-hards hopped into their vehicles and trailed the team bus all the way to the airport, hoping to catch a last glimpse of the Reds before they left Singapore soil.

This leaves me to wonder.

What makes a Reds fan tick, that makes one so attached to a club so distant and far away, that makes one scream himself hoarse at the sight of a Torres or Alonso, or is left in a blubbering mess after a simple autograph or picture? It’s not just a Reds fan. It could be a Kobe Bryant fan (more than 8,000 of you were at the Indoor Stadium last Tuesday… or even the Man U fans who traveled up to KL).

I went over to the Liverpool dressing room to see if the players were still around.
